Everything you ever wanted to know about this site and its author.

Sorry to drop into legalese for a moment, but I should point out that this is my personal site and the thoughts and opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

The author

Stephen Wettone was born at a very young age in London. He spent most of the first twenty years of his life wanting to move back. Now he is spending some time in Hampshire because he has realised that the countryside contains more country pubs. He suffers from the occasional bout of insomnia and an overwhelming desire to evangelise open source software. He is a freelance programmer of over ten years' experience.

All offers of work are more than welcome, but he would love to hear from you whatever the reason. Unfortunately he doesn't know why he writes about himself in the third person so much.

This site is coded with strict XHTML 1.0 because web standards are important. CSS is used for all layout and formatting. If you are using an old or inferior browser, you should consider upgrading.

Behind the scenes, PHP is used for all the scripting. The weblog is published with a custom-built CMS. The code for much of this is not directly available but the principles behind it will be documented in the code section of the site over time.

The style sheet instructs your browser to render most of the text as "Lucida Grande", "Lucida Sans Unicode", Lucida, Helvetica, Arial or, failing that, whatever sans-serif font is available. Headings are Helvetica or Arial.

This site is made with an Apple Macintosh running OS X. Images, though few and far between, are produced using Adobe Photoshop. All the code is written in TextWrangler or whatever text editor takes my fancy. GUI editing is for amateurs.

You are more than welcome to link to any page of the site. All weblog entries have permalinks and I will endeavour to make them work for as long as possible.

You own your own words. This means that comments belong to their authors, and I take no responsibility for them. I reserve the right to edit or delete any comment I deem off-topic, offensive, or irrelevant, with or without explanation. This is my site, and I have the right to choose what appears on it. Advertising will not be tolerated in comments. I don't make any money from this site, so why should you?

Privacy policy

The e-mail address you provide when writing comments is never displayed on the site. Your name will be linked to any URL that you enter. Your e-mail address will never be sold, rented, given or otherwise made available to other sites, mailing lists, or third parties. I hate spam even more than you do.

When you post a comment your IP address is logged. This never appears on the site and will never be made available to third parties.

If someone breaks into my house, tranquilises the sharks, deactivates the laser beams with an intricate series of prisms, negotiates the rickety wooden bridge and steals my computer, your privacy may be compromised. It's a small risk but you've been warned.
