Weblog entries for 18 November 2002

I'm on holiday.

Only I'm not on holiday really: I'm just sitting around in the house, doing nothing in particular, plucking up the courage to attack the pile of dishes in the kitchen, tinkering with my site's layout yet again, and so on. Nothing constructive.

I can't go out because I'm waiting for a delivery. It's not even for me: I'm putting together a computer for my brother and the remaining parts are meant to be delivered today. But it's 4:30 and still no sign. Ho hum.

Yesterday was of course Sunday, so we got bored. We've been accumulating the cardboard tubes from the middle of loo rolls - not for any particular reason, just because it's a boys' flat and we're terrible at tidying up. Plus it was exciting to see them stack up over time.

So we counted how many we have and it turned out to be 23. Along with an empty kitchen roll tube we had, that makes 24 - the number of days in an advent calendar. The kitchen roll tube would be for Christmas Eve, because then we can fit more chocolate in it for that day.

We glued wrapping paper around the tubes and stuck them all together. We've also got a string of lights that sparkle in several patterns, and we've fixed a light to the back of each tube, so the general effect is to have a small light display on the mantelpiece. It's great!

Next weekend Sonya is going to put chocolate in each one and we'll cover them with tin foil or something, with a number for each day on, and voila! A fantastic home-made advent calendar! Aren't you amazed at how exciting my life is? :-)
